Today is a somber day. It marks fifty years since a loud blast pierced the crisp morning air stealing the life of a man who lived to improve the lives of so many others. Dr King was a modern day Elijah, parting the waters of separation & taking on the establishment without regard for his own personal well being.
“Fifty years ago today, a bullet ended Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s life but it could not end his dream.”
At his death, Dr King was consider one of the most hated men in America at the time. Today he is lauded as a hero but at one time was looked upon as a villian. What we celebrate today was merely tolerated yesterday. This is why we cannot judge the effectiveness of our calling & purpose based on the current public opinion. The impact of what we do today may not be felt until a generation later. Stay the course.
In famous last speech, Dr. King sounded like Moses who was only allowed to see the promise land but not allowed to enter it. He knew that he “might not get there with you but we as a people will get to the promise land.” He dreamed for a generation he would never see. Fifty years ago today, a bullet ended Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s life but it could not end his dream.
Keep Dreaming.
